A ship from pirate101

Ships are the primary method by which your pirate traverses the Skyways and Stormgates to navigate the Spiral in Pirate101. Battling ships is a frequent objective your Pirate is sure to encounter during quests. Ships sunk in broadside combat can drop nautical experience, gold, script, and ship equipment, and ships sunk in deckside combat can drop experience, gold, and various equipment items.

There are three kinds of ships: enemy ships, friendly ships, and equipable ships which your Pirate and crew use to traverse the Skyways. Friendly ships are few in number, but can be boarded at any time and will frequently have NPCs on board to talk to. Enemy ships are much more frequent, and will attack your Pirate if their ship gets too close.

Ship Combat[]

There are two kinds of ship combat: broadside combat and deckside combat. Broadside combat occurs between the ships themselves. Deckside combat occurs when a ship has been boarded.

Some ships cannot be sunk by broadside combat. These ships have a yellow rubber duck on their health bar, and are labeled "unsinkable." However, these ships can be sunk when boarded and defeated in deckside combat. Unsinkable ships only appear in vortexes or maelstroms, and always have a quest associated with their defeat. Unsinkable ships can have their health lowered to no less than 50%, and will always board your Pirate's ship immediately, regardless of ship health.

Broadside Combat[]

During broadside combat, your Pirate will use their ship's abilities to weaken or defeat an enemy ship. There are four kinds of ship abilities: figure head, horn, wheel, and sail. Figure head and horn abilities deal damage and have a chance to leave tokens. Wheel abilities heal your Pirate's ship by a certain percentage. Sail abilities either increase your Pirate's accuracy or defence, or lower the enemy's accuracy or defence.

When a ship is at half health, an icon appears overhead indicating it can now be boarded. Enemy ships will automatically board your Pirate's ship if they're able, so keep a safe distance if you don't want to engage in deckside combat. Enemies on enemy ships will have their health reduced depending on the amount of damage dealt to their ship in broadside combat.

Deckside Combat[]

During deckside combat, your Pirate's ship and the enemy's ship are connected by gangplanks. Any tokens that were on deck turn into their respective traps, and repair tokens disappear entirely. Deckside combat unfolds like normal combat does, but with a giant open air hole in between the ships that must be navigated around. Some Pirates receive a talent from their Class Trainer called Pirate, which provides them with increased damage and accuracy when on an enemy's ship. Chests drop like normal once all enemies are defeated, and your Pirate's ship automatically returns to sailing once finished, though it is invulnerable for a few seconds afterwards.

Ship Origin, Weight, and Size[]

Ship origin affects which ship equipment your ship can equip, but is primarily for aesthetic purposes. They also relate to specific worlds of the Spiral, with the exception of the Beluga, Haunted Galleon, and Raft origins.

There are nine origins of ship your Pirate can obtain:

Origin Name Relating World
Beluga N/A
Haunted Galleon N/A*
Raft N/A
Pirate Skull Island
Monquistador Monquista
Bison Cool Ranch
Samoorai MooShu
Royal Navy Marleybone
Eagle Aquila

*A case can be made for the Haunted Galleon origin belonging to Cool Ranch, since Haunted Skyway contains Haunted Galleon ships.

Ship weight affects the speed and health of your ship; lighter ships are faster but have lower health, whereas heavier ships are slower but have higher health. Ship size is often used in place of weight since they are correlated, however the size of the ship pertains only to the physical appearance.

There are three sizes / weights of ships:

Size Weight
Skiff Light
Frigate Medium
Galleon Heavy

Purchasable Ships[]

Some ships are obtained through the main quest, however most ships will be obtained through purchases with gold or crowns. Some ships are only obtainable for a limited amount of time, since they are seasonal releases.
